San Miguel Corporation has started dredging operations on the Pampanga River. In a briefing for Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda, SMC reported that 40,000 cubic meters of silt and trash have been dredged downstream the Pampanga River in Macabebe town since Aug. 21. Of the 20-kilometer downstream stretch from NLEX up to the mouth of Manila Bay, 10 kilometers will be dredge to return the river depth to four meters and width of 100 meters with the use of eight excavators and three barges. It can be recalled that Governor Pineda initiated talks on the dredging project with SMC chairman Ramon S. Ang in August 2023, leading to the signing of a memorandum of understanding in October that same year whereby the SMC shall undertake the project at no cost to the provincial government.
