Quick Chat with the First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos
A rare, candid chat with First Lady Liza Marcos in Tarlac—on kindness, family, and staying grounded amid criticism and duty to the country. #angelfaith

Had the rare opportunity to talk to First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos during the Lab for All medical mission in La Paz, Tarlac last October 21, 2025.

As to why I was there — and how I ended up seated beside her and PCSO Director Imelda Papin — that’s a story for another time.

I told her that I had met her son, Congressman Sandro Marcos, during a recent visit to the House of Representatives.
“Ma’am FL, I saw your son, Cong. Sandro, last July during session. Mas kamukha niya pala kayo!”

She laughed warmly and replied, “Mom’s fav ’yun e!”

When I asked her about the challenges of being the First Lady, she smiled and said, “You have to do everything for the sake of the country.”

And when I followed up with how she handles criticism, her answer was simple yet striking: “Stay kind, and help where I can.”

Before we parted, we were asked to stand for a photo. She chuckled and said, “Wag na, kunwari kasal lang.” That lighthearted humor — so natural, so human — is what makes her endearing.

There was one more question I asked, something personal, that I’ll keep to myself — maybe I’ll share it in due time.

But as I reflected on that brief encounter, one thing became clear: being the First Lady is no easy task. Behind the elegant posture and graceful smile is a woman who carries the weight of public expectations, endless schedules, and family responsibilities — all while managing her own health and peace of mind.

She is not just the President’s wife — she is a mother, a leader, and a human being who faces judgment, pressure, and fatigue like the rest of us. Yet she stays humble, grounded, and true to her values. No trace of arrogance, no “pattisan” attitude — just quiet strength and a firm resolve to keep the President focused and the nation inspired.

In a time when noise and negativity often drown out kindness, her calmness is a reminder that grace is power — and that true leadership can also come from gentleness.
