🌱 Greening the Coast: 2,000 Mangroves Planted to Revitalize Bulacan's Shorelines 🌿
In a bid to restore the coastal barangays of Bulacan, 2,000 mangrove saplings were planted in Barangay Masukol, Paombong, and Tibaguin, Hagonoy, as part of a larger 10,000 sapling initiative.

In a significant environmental effort, 2,000 mangrove saplings have been planted in the coastal barangays of Masukol in Paombong and Tibaguin in Hagonoy, Bulacan. This initiative is part of a broader project aiming to plant 10,000 mangroves in the area over the next three years. Provincial Agriculturist Ma. Gloria SF. Carrillo highlighted the declining mangrove areas and the resulting decrease in fish catch due to the loss of breeding grounds, affecting local fishermen's income.

Mangroves serve as critical protection against storm surges and rising sea levels, besides being a vital habitat for marine life. Current data shows only 391.14 hectares of mangroves remain in the province, which is merely 15% of the national total for mangrove-planted areas.

The project aims not only to restore the mangrove population but also to enhance the local fishing yields, supporting the daily livelihood of the community. The Fishermen's Association of Isla Tibaguin will play a crucial role in spreading, planting, caring for, and maintaining the saplings, with financial support from Eagle Cement Corporation at the planting stage and six months afterward, based on the survival rate of the mangroves.

This initiative is a collaboration between the Bulacan Provincial Agriculture Office and Eagle Cement Corporation, along with the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, local governments of Hagonoy and Paombong, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 3, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 3, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office-Bulacan, and various Rotary Clubs.

Question: How do you think initiatives like these impact local communities and the environment? 🤔
